Aldeth Spence Christy Foundation, Inc

Bunny died on, of all days, September 11, 2001 at age 62 due to natural causes. She produced work of the highest aesthetic merit, but it did not become well known, even regionally, during her lifetime. The Foundation was established to document and preserve her images and writing, and make them more available to others.

She left in her personal collection, in approximate numbers: 30 finished wall hangings in fabric collage plus 20 works that were not completed, 720 pen-and-ink drawings done in bound books; 7 pen-and-ink collage drawings framed behind glass; 10 oil crayon (Cray-Pas) drawings on paper; composite drawings, in various states of good quality and disrepair; and 50 unframed pen-and-ink drawings. Apart from some of the oil crayon drawings, the works are in excellent condition with occasional exceptions.

This work represents probably one-fifth or less of her lifetime output. These fabric wall hangings and a number of others, 71 in total, in the hands of individuals have been professionally documented by the Foundation with slides and digital images. We are very much interested in learning of the owners of other works, as we expand the database of her output. She also left over three decades of fine personal writing, contained in 123 bound journals. Ninety-four of these have been transcribed into MS Word.

The Foundation is a Maryland nonprofit corporation currently recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, community supported, public charity. We are interested in making the art and writing of Aldeth Spence Christy available to students, scholars and researchers, and to the general public as we have the means to do so. Please contact us with your interest in these areas.
